Classroom Information
ALL INFORMATION IS CURRENTLY BEING UPDATED TO REFLECT COLTER ELEMENTARY AND THE 2021-2021 SCHOOL YEAR. Thanks for your patience!
Communication
Good parent-teacher communication is important for a successful school year for your child. I look at us as a team! :) I will send home an email every Friday and post it on this website outlining what we have been working on that week, and anything important coming up. I encourage you to contact me anytime with questions and/or concerns.
You can call me at school at 307-733-9651.
The best way to reach me is e-mail at: [email protected]
Our class website is www.mrschaefersclass.weebly.com
Conferences/Report Cards
We have parent/teacher conferences twice a year (November and February). All parents are expected to attend. The dates for the conferences will be announced in upcoming newsletters. These conferences are planned to discuss your child’s progress and offer you ideas on how to help your child succeed. Please try your best to make these meetings. If you ever feel the need to meet with me outside of these times, let me know and we can schedule a time. This is a great chance to ask any questions as well. Report cards will go home 2 times a year (January and June). Please feel free to contact me if you are ever concerned with your child's progress, and I will make sure to do the same.
Homework
Reading: 20-25 minutes every night. Your child will have a reading goal each month (minutes). If they meet their goal, they will earn various rewards.
Math: extra math work available (as needed).
Additional homework/projects will be assigned throughout the year.
Behavior
I follow the "Bucketfilling" philosophy in our classroom. Everyone has an invisible bucket, and when you "fill" somebody's bucket you are being nice to them, and when you "dip" into someone's bucket you are not being nice. It is an amazing program. If you are interested, you can read at www.bucketfillers101.com
Gotcha/Store
Our school motto is "Be Respectful, Be Responsible, Be Safe, Be Friendly." Your child has the opportunity to earn Gotchas tickets for exhibiting these good behaviors. Once your child has earned 5 Gotcha tickets, they can go to the Gotcha Store and buy a prize! We visit the Gotcha store once a week.
Snacks
Our classroom has a morning snack. Students can bring their own snacks, or choose from the fruit/vegetable of the day. CES has once again received a fresh fruit/veggie grant, so I will always have something healthy for the kids (ie: apples, bananas, oranges, etc.). I strongly urge parents to send a snack(s) everyday just in case, as children do not always like the fruit/veggie option. Healthy snacks are preferred and candy/chocolate, chips, pretzels, etc. are not allowed. If these items are packed in their lunches that is fine, but not for snack time please.
Some ideas for snacks are: granola bars, graham crackers, veggies, fruits, trailmix, yogurt, etc.
Classroom Celebrations
We have 3 celebrations throughout the year: Halloween, Christmas, and Valentine's Day.
Halloween: Costumes, Parade, and Party in the afternoon. Please send costumes in a labeled bag.
Christmas: International Luncheon: Each child will sign up to bring something to share significant to their family heritage. It is fun for families and kids to get together, and try some amazing food from other cultures.
Valentine's Day: Valentine Box contest, Valentine exchange, and party in the afternoon. Please make sure to include a Valentine for everyone! :)
Legacy Books
Students are welcome to donate "legacy books" to our classroom at anytime. Students who donate a book to the library get will get to sign the inside cover of the book, and will be a part of the classroom library long after they leave my classroom!
Any books are welcome, and we have a classroom wishlist with books that both the children and I have added to at:
Star of the Week
Each week our classroom will have a Star of the Week. We will pick our new star each Friday, and there will be a special poster sent home with that student to decorate/complete, and return to school. Our Star of the Week will have special duties to help out the teacher during their week, and we will have special ways to celebrate the Star of the Week throughout the week.
Field Trips
We have so many AMAZING field trips in 2nd grade! They vary from year to year, but most revolve community and our natural surroundings here in Jackson Hole! More information to come throughout the school year!
Specials
Each afternoon, your child will have a "special". It may be Art, Music, Library, Computers, PE, or Spanish. Please see our specials schedule under the Daily Schedule tab so your child will be prepared. We are on a 5-day rotation schedule for specials.

Book orders will be sent home at the beginning of each month. These are age appropriate books at a great price! I hope that you will all take advantage of this opportunity to encourage your kids to read with you. :)

Book order due dates are generally 1 week after the catalog goes home.
